The PharmD/MBA program

The PharmD/MBA program allows students to receive both degrees in a shorter amount of time (about 1 year shorter) versus receiving them separately. With both a strong clinical and science background along with the practical business knowledge and experiences gained from the MBA, graduates with dual degrees are strong candidates for entry into the pharmaceutical industry. In addition, many Pharm D/MBA's go on to run their own successful companies or to work in areas such as drug purchasing in hospitals, PBMs (Pharmacy Benefits Manager), and MCOs (Managed Care Organizations).

It is important to note that you need to first get accepted into the Pharm D (Doctor of Pharmacy) program before applying for the MBA program. Once you are accepted into pharmacy school that has a dual degree option, you have a higher chance of being accepted to the business school (as there aren't many applicants from pharmacy school and some preference is given because you already were good enough of a candidate for a professional doctorate degree).

Many other dual degrees options worth exploring exist with the Pharm D degree which include the JD, MPH, MS Reg Sci, MS Gerontology, etc.

Here are the pharmacy schools that the Pharm D/MBA program:

online mba rankings

The first step for anyone who decides he wants to pursue an MBA through an executive program is to decide how to use the degree once all the classwork is completed. To many, an advanced degree will be something of a marketing tool for your career. A ranking executive MBA program will help signal that not only you have acquired an advanced degree, but that the quality of your education will be higher than the quality of your competitor's education. Further, choosing a program based on its ranking can make it more valuable for you.

Employers might not always have the time or experience to be able to assess your specific skills in all areas. Some employers turn to proxies in order to help them compare one employee against another. Some clients may also turn to reputation to be able to evaluate performance. Ranking executive MBA program provides graduates with a way to let others know that their time spent acquiring further knowledge through an MBA has been worthwhile. Also, graduates will be able to point towards the ranking as evidence of their knowledge. The employer or client can also trust what others have said about the program without having to make an assessment on a project by project basis. It can further be considered as an important tool in deciding which person should be granted an opportunity to try and complete a project. Obviously, employers will usually rely on the quality of an employee's education in order to decide which one should take on any given assignment.

Since there is limited availability within each program, executive MBA candidates must understand that not everyone will be accepted into Harvard or some other top ranked school. The system works because not everyone needs to go to the number one school. Therefore, a straight ranking executive MBA program is not the only analysis candidates should conduct. Candidates should nonetheless explore reputable online resources to be able to learn how the programs will be able to fit in with their needs. Candidates should understand how each program can help them learn specific elements that will be able to further their knowledge. Candidates should know what they need to learn how to add the most value to their career.

Choosing to go back to school is not always an easy decision, as candidates will need to weigh whether the time lost from work will be made up in the future through an advanced degree. It is not always a guarantee that the decision to pursue an MBA will be advantageous for the candidate. However, there are things executives can do in order to improve the odds in their favor. Take into account the ranking executive MBA program, but do so together with specific information about how the program will be able to meet your needs.

online mba ranking

MBA rankings are generally referred to as the subjective appraisal of the quality of an MBA program or a business school offering MBA programs. As an effective and conventional judging system, MBA ranking contributes to almost all leading business schools and business related programs.

In this ranking system, a number of criteria are used to find out the existing position of these business schools and their programs. It is based on the questionnaire answers and by comparing the different aspects of these MBA programs. The ranking list is put up each year. There are a number of agencies, including the US MBA rankings - FT, the US News and World Report, and the ComputerWorld's Top 25 Techno MBAs, conducting this ranking process by evaluating part time and full time graduate business programs.

Some of the basic criteria for ranking full time MBA programs are the reputation based on the judgment and opinion of MBA graduates and recruiters; academics; GMAT (Graduate Management Admission Test) scores; quality assessments by the alumni; job placement rate; salary and bonus; rating of research; and academic reputation. The part time programs are ranked on the basis of nomination by the MBA program directors and business school deans. The minimum number of nomination required for ranking is seven. Although many of the schools do not agree on these ranking criteria used, a number of schools among them can be seen at the top of the rankings.

In the case of business schools, MBA rankings survey is a useful tool to determine their strengths and weaknesses. MBA rankings are always calculated in the form of numerical lists. mba degrees

As college tuition keeps rising, students have to get creative in being able to get the education they need in order to be competitive in the market place. For business students who are looking for a graduate degree, there is no better time than now to get a distance learning MBA.

Even though the market right now is ripe with new for-profit schools, you may still be having some trouble finding the school that is right for you. If you are not looking in the right places, it might be impossible to find one that you can actually afford. With many students leaving their graduate programs well over $50,000 in debt, it pays to really consider what job outlook you have in your chosen profession and how an MBA will really help you.

One option to consider is college with an alternative tuition program. These schools are not diploma mills. In fact many are either accredited nationally by the DETC if into regionally also. By finding a school like this, you can get your distance learning degrees for pennies when compared to what you would pay at other school. These alternative programs range from either scholarships applied to all students, or require the student to pay a certain amount and have third parties pay the rest. One school has a Sponsored Tuition Program, where students can opt-in and trade their contact information for a tuition free education. Students must still pay for their books and about $600 in fees each semester. But the additional tuition of $3600 for each semester gets picked up by your sponsor. Talk about a lesson in capitalism.

If you need a regionally accredited school, then look no further than Business Week's extensive profile listing of many top ranked graduate schools in the country that offer distance learning MBA programs. They provide all the information you will need to find that right school, including enrollment dates, admissions policies and contact information. It will save you countless hours at the computer.

So, whether you are looking for the most inexpensive program, or a more time-honored academic institution that has both brick and mortar and online classrooms, these two sources are key options to consider. With a little effort and determination, it won't be long before you have found your MBA program and you are logging in to your first class. Good luck in pursuing your dreams.

best online mba

Traditional, classroom-based MBA programs have always been a central pillar for business students. But now online MBAs are entering the arena, causing students and employers to pose some big, serious questions. Are online MBAs really equivalent to classroom-based degrees? Could they actually provide the same level of business expertise? As the trend toward distance learning takes hold, many are dropping their pretenses and viewing both as legitimate options.

The Traditional MBA: Reputation, Experience

The strongest asset classroom-based MBAs have is reputation. Since the first Master's of Business Administration program was introduced at Harvard University in 1908, MBA holders have been viewed as the upper crust of business graduates for their versatility in areas such as administration, finance, project coordination, human resources and risk management. MBA holders are usually the highest paid, the first to be promoted, and the most likely to become CEO or chairperson. Even veteran employees with long-term experience frequently take a back seat to young graduates with freshly minted degrees.

Another part of the traditional MBA program's appeal has been the interactive classroom environment where students work in teams, piecing together innovative strategies and putting them to the test, the same way they do it in the real world. Graduates from these programs came out perfectly sculpted for the work environments they were going to enter, ready to excel in the business world.

The Online MBA: Innovation, Discipline

But a revolution occurred when smaller, more flexible colleges began offering MBA programs that were accessible to the continuing-education crowd and people who are fully employed. With the same business curriculum being offered online by technical universities and career colleges, the focus of the MBA became more complex. Students still work in groups to create simulated business projects, but now they do it through distance communication channels such as email, online chat and internal message boards -- the same way modern businesses work in the real world. These graduates enter the workforce prepared not only for the management aspects of business, but also the technological aspects. This point is raising the eyebrows of hiring managers who use Web-based tools like Gmail, Yammer, IM and even Twitter to carry out daily business operations.

Another point to consider with these home-based, online programs is the increased level of discipline required to complete them. While some may be quick to assume online MBA programs are the equivalent of clicking around on a laptop while watching TV, in reality it can require even more focus and self-discipline to get through the condensed subject matter at home than it does in a classroom setting. With distractions like busy schedules, phones and other house occupants, successful online MBA students need to have the control to stay on task, again much like the real world. The result is a different breed of MBA graduate -- one with advanced technological ability and time-management skills. And increasingly, these graduates are being placed right alongside the older style of MBA graduate. It's a slightly different road to the same destination, but it's becoming more traveled by the year.

online mba program

An MBA degree is an asset that can open doors and increase career opportunities. When considering which MBA program to attend, prospective students must first decide whether to enroll in an online MBA degree program, or to physically attend on site classes.

This decision depends on the prospective student's individual needs, taking into account such factors as time, location and cost.

A traditional on site MBA program has the benefit of increased interaction with others, thus allowing for a greater exchange of ideas and information. On site MBA programs also have the allure of traditional college reputations and accreditation.

However, classes that require mandatory physical attendance can be restrictive, especially for those with full time jobs and inflexible schedules. Distance can also affect the ability to attend traditional classes. On site programs also tend to be more expensive, due to the costs of physical facilities and commuting expenses.

An online MBA degree program can be completed in the privacy of one's own home any time, day or night, and distance is not an issue. An online MBA degree program is also more affordable, because there are no overhead expenses, and there are no commuting expenses. Advances in technology allow for more real time communication between teachers and students. The popularity of online MBA programs has also led to greater acceptance in the business community, and the majority of these programs are indeed accredited.

All aspects must be considered when making the decision of which type of MBA program to attend.

best online mba programs

Online MBA Programs, also known by the moniker "distance learning" MBAs, are becoming more and more ubiquitous. While the number of programs has exploded over the past few years that is not to say that all the programs are of the same quality or that all online MBA programs are interchangeable. Generally, the online programs fit into one of two categories; those that are 'virtual' schools such as the University of Phoenix and Devry's Online MBA, and those that are given by established 'bricks and mortar' institutions such as the University of Maryland and Duke University.

Online MBA Programs that are given by 'virtual' schools are more plentiful than those given by traditional schools. There is a wide range of prices and time frames and for the person that is looking to get an MBA 'on the cheap' this is certainly the way to go. Tuition for online programs in the 2004 to 2005 academic year ranged from $9,120 at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln to $18,070 at the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs. In addition, many of the 'virtual' programs can be pretty lax in terms of deadlines for completing all materials and curricula for the degree. This can be good for someone that plans to complete the program in parts or who works and wants to take a long period of time or even breaks between the different courses. Most, however do have a 'maximum' time in order to complete materials.

Another thing to keep in mind is that 'virtual' programs tend to have somewhat lax admission requirements...some with the only requirement being a bachelors degree. Some of the more popular 'virtual' universities include the University of Phoenix, Devry's Keller School of Management, Strayer University, Walden and Capella. There is no question that Online MBA Programs given by established brick and mortar institutions are a different breed than those offered by the 'virtual' schools. But to be honest, they are also catering to a different audience. In general, those offered by traditional institutions have higher admission requirements, cost more and also have more rigorous curriculums.

The best online MBA program is widely considered to be Duke University's Global Executive MBA, but the program is not entirely online and requires 5 two-week in-class sessions including time at the campus in North Carolina as well as two weeks each in Europe, South America and Asia. Compared to a full two-years on campus for the regular program, this might be a good tradeoff to get a top-notch nationally recognized MBA. Other well known schools that offer online programs but without in-class requirements or at least very little include Syracuse University, the University of Maryland, the University of Michigan at Flint and Univ of Mass at-Amherst.

While almost none of the Online MBA Programs says it is an 'online program' on the degree once it is received, it is hard to believe that 'virtual' schools would carry the same prestige and job-getting power as a well known nationally recognized school such as Duke, U of M or Syracuse. All of the programs whether virtual or brick and mortar require a heavy dose of self discipline and motivation. One of the benefits of being in a classroom with other students is the group motivation that being around other students provides. You might enjoy the luxury of doing your class work in your PJs but be prepared to keep yourself motivated. Overall the Online MBA offers a good option for a wide variety of different situations while offering a range of quality programs depending on a person's needs. One way to improve your qualifications in order to enable yourself a new scenery for employment is to gain some support by getting an MBA from an online MBA program. Even if you have a degree and a job already, an MBA enables you a ton of support during an economic crisis. When you realize that your current monthly income is not sufficient is when you should think about enhancing your qualifications.

Online studies are very accessible and less difficult than people think. There are a number of online MBA programs offered by schools that should be avoided and this makes the task of locating the top programs a bit more difficult. It is wise to not consider schools that have no references, few courses offered and have no student lists. Another weakness in some online programs is that their programs are aimed towards very specific economic areas that have few jobs; these do not help you in your career and thus should be avoided.

The top online MBA programs, as calculated and ranked by popularity, costs and students numbers, are mostly based on business, management and other economical or computer related subjects.

Keep in mind as you continue that we are not ranking schools but instead are referring to programs. The business management degrees that are offered by the Thunderbird School of Global Management in Arizona, USA, tend to be earned more efficiently than with other schools. To do so, you will need to piece together a specific plan of action for your education and career, establish a timetable of events, and find out about the application process. You will also need to find out if the program that interests you might require GMAT scores, and if so, when you must take the exam. You can also try to plan which people you will be able to request letters of reference from. You will also need to figure out when you can start the program, if there is only one class of admits or if students are allowed to start at different times of the year.

Knowing your strengths and weaknesses and what you need to learn will make it a strong base from which to judge the relative merits of a program. Executive MBA program tips for choosing schools include taking time to match programs to your goals. For instance, pursuing a course work focused on accounting might not always yield a significant return if your field happens to be marketing. Similarly, if you want a marketing degree, try to include schools in your search that will be ranked highly for their marketing courses, even if the school is not as well known for its finance courses.

It is important to sort through multiple options ni order to develop a strategy that will satisfy your needs for an advanced business degree. Some executive MBA program tips suggest building on what you can learn from others who have been in a similar situation, also, finding a reputable source of information that compares top MBA programs. Use the information they have gathered to save yourself time and money. The faster you can identify an ideal program, the sooner you will be able to begin your studies. Further, the more accurately you can match your requirements with a program, the greater the chances will be that you will be able to leverage your new degree in order to advance within your profession. There are no guarantees that choosing to pursue an executive MBA will work out as expected, but if you lay the proper foundation, you will soon have the best chances for success.
